Florence and Jean-Charles Fournet, respectively a speech therapist and a radiologist, with a passion for wine and agriculture, bought a property in 2005 in the commune of Saint-Romain-en-Gal, on the right bank of the Rhône at an altitude of 360 meters, a stone’s throw from the northernmost plots of Côte-Rôtie. Encouraged by their winegrower friends, and after geological analysis of the soils confirmed the high quality of the estate’s terroirs, they embarked on their winegrowing adventure. Clearing the hillsides, planting, selecting the best vines and rootstocks, renovating farm buildings to create vats, cellars and logistics – nothing is left to chance to produce wines that live up to their expectations and ambitions. From the outset, as the Fournet family lived on the estate, the practice of biodynamic agriculture and agroforestry was an obvious choice. Starting in 2019, Devay will expand its production with a short range of cuvées made from grapes purchased from the Côte-Rôtie, Condrieu, Crozes-Hermitage and Côtes-du-Rhône appellations, processed on the estate with the same rigorous sorting standards for all wines. This wine is aged in barrels for 9 months before bottling. For Devay, this is a very fine presence in the region’s flagship appellations.
