Florence and Jean-Charles Fournet, respectively a speech therapist and a radiologist, with a passion for wine and agriculture, bought a property in 2005 in the commune of Saint-Romain-en-Gal, on the right bank of the Rhône at an altitude of 360 meters, a stone’s throw from the northernmost plots of Côte-Rôtie. Encouraged by their winegrower friends, and after confirming the high quality of the terroirs on the property through geological soil analysis, they embarked on their winegrowing adventure. Clearing the slopes, planting, selecting the best vines and rootstocks, renovating the farm buildings to create a winery, cellars and logistics – nothing was left to chance to produce wines that lived up to their expectations and ambitions. From the outset, as the Fournet family’s home, the practice of biodynamic agriculture and agroforestry was self-evident. Starting in 2019, Devay is expanding its production with a short range of cuvées made from grapes purchased from the Côte-Rôtie, Condrieu, Crozes-Hermitage and Côtes-du-Rhône appellations, processed on the estate with the same exacting sorting standards for all wines. This wine is aged in barrels for 9 months before bottling. For Devay, this is a very fine presence in the region’s flagship appellations.
